The New Cinema Won

2014 has come and gone and, well, to be honest, Cinema Won seemed to have gone with it. I mean, it’s hard to deny that my heart just wasn't in this anymore when I completely stopped doing it for several months. But during that time away, I think I might have realized something. Simply put, I was doing it wrong. See, I never wanted Cinema Won to feel like a job, but it became exactly that. The idea of going to the movies every week to review it later just wasn't fun and for a job that I received no pay or much credit for doing, yeah, it was hard to get myself motivated, especially with a college work load and a social life.

     But I still want to make this work. I do have fun doing Cinema Won, but not like this. See, despite my thoughts that it’s somehow “more important” to review current films, I always would have rather seen the film and talk about something else. I mean, I haven’t stopped going to the movies. I still go every single weekend. But not every movie I want to talk about and feeling like I had to just killed it for me. But, that did make me realize something. While I don’t have fun reviewing current releases, I do have a ton of fun talking about obscure, odd films that other people don’t talk about.

     I really do feel like my last review, Riding the Bullet, is some of my best work and it mostly stems from the fact that it was a genuinely interesting and somewhat strange film I had never heard of before. Essentially, the world doesn't need a 128,435th review of the new Hunger Games, but it could do with a review or at least discussion on a Stephen King adaptation from several years ago that involves a roller coaster as a metaphor for life in the most self-serious way possible. Because that to me is interesting,

     And that’s what, hopefully, Cinema Won will be from now on. A site devoted to looking at the strangest films I can find, or at least the films that no one else is looking at. That said however, I don’t find new releases boring, just not what I want to do full reviews of. Therefore, with it being the end of the month, I figure why don’t I give quick reviews of all the movies I saw in that month in theaters.

      It makes me sadder than I can really say, but today I must announce that The Undefined Gamer will no longer be working with me on Cinema Won. I will not get into specifics, but do to an increase in arguments and bad feelings, from both myself and him, I no longer feel as if he should be working on this site. I wish I could say things ended on better terms, but sadly they didn't. Things on Cinema Won will resume within the week. As for the Undefined Gamer, though he won't believe it, I genuinely do wish him the best of luck in the future and hope that we can one day work through these differences, as both sides have some learning and growing to do. You can find him on his own site, Unclean Monstrosities on Wordpress, where he is currently running a fun contest. Please check it out and wish him the best. I'm sorry, but sometimes we must do things we don't like to help everyone involved.

Coming Soon: August/September 2014

      After several weeks without posts, Cinema Won should soon be back. However, first, both me and the Undefined Gamer are packing up and heading out to college, so the posts, while coming, my be few and far inbetween. However, once we get settled, Cinema Won will officially be back, with a bigger emphasis on series and humor, with longer, more in-depth posts and news stories as well, at least from me. But at least, here's what you can expect from me these next few weeks:

End of (School) Days

I wanted to give a quick update about what's going to be going on here on Cinema Won these next few weeks. Essentially, in the next few weeks, I will be graduating from high school. Which if you;ve gone through it is a pretty busy time. So, like the last few weeks, there might not be all too much here on Cinema Won as I wrap up the school year. But don't worry (If you're into that kind of thing). I'll still be covering all the big theatrical releases this month. Plus, I will still have a few review a week, starting with a new Disney List episode tomorrow (Raise the woof!). Then, hopefully in early June, Cinema Won will be back to a new post everyday. And, as always, I can't forget about my 3 year anniversary...

The Undefined Gamer: A Gamer Any Longer?

      Hi. My name is Mitch. I've been reviewing books, video games, and
movies for a while now. For about 6 months, I went as the Video
GAManiac (hence my youtube username thechapmaniac1 and later
thechapmaniac4) until I changed it to The Undefined Gamer, which is
what I've gone by for the last two years.
      But should I still call myself a Gamer?

The Ultimate Lists of Ultimate Destinies

      Yes, it's a new year, which means a new look for Cinema Won! And new stuffs going on! This year I wanted to do something similar to the theme months I've done in the past. So, obviously, the best answer was to never do a theme month again. Yeah. Now, I will still do Halloween and Christmas months and something special around the site's anniversary. But, for now, I plan on doing something a bit different.
      I have made three lists, each with a long number of films/TV shows that I plan to review. But here's the catch. The lists are kinda like a fallback. If I don't have a movie to get from Netflix or I want a movie to watch on Instant, I watch a movie on one of these lists. So there is really no pressure for me to review everything quickly, which has been a problem in the past and would get worse with the sheer number of films on these lists. If I reviewed one film a day, it would take me a little over a full year to do it. So yeah, gonna take my time with these,
      So here are the lists. First up, The Ultimate Superhero List. Yes, with this list I have chosen a little over 120 superhero themed movies to watch and hopefully review. Some are based on DC Comics, some Marvel, Dark Horse and some are original to the movie they're in. And it's not all theatrical either. I have the DC Animated films, the Marvel ones, some direct-to-DVD films. Even that one weird KISS movie. I've got it all. Next is The Ultimate Childhood List. This list features over 150 DVD collections, film versions, special episodes and the like for all the shows I watched when I was a kid, mainly from Nickelodeon, Cartoon Network and Disney Channel. That also includes every Disney Channel Original Movie I can get my hands on. And speaking of Disney, the third and biggest list The Ultimate Disney List. That list features over 180 of Disney's theatrical films from the beginning of Disney. All the sequels, prequels and other-quels included, animated or live-action and even some direct-to-DVD. Even their nature movies. It'll be crazy! And with that, look for those lists to kick off later this week. I've got a long way to go, and everybody's coming with me. Whether they want to or not.

The Future of Cinema Won

      I just wanted to write something quick in order to say a few things that I think I need to be said. I alway had a tendency to start a NEW SERIES and then several weeks later, end it unceremoniously and never mention it again. And here's why. I don't want Cinema Won to be a job. I may not get paid, have the bigger fanbase or anything like that. But I think I do well and maybe this will grow into something big. Well, bigger. But, I will only do this if I am enjoying it. And series force me into deadline and making watching the film I review an assignment. I do it for work and not for enjoyment, which I think sways the review and takes the fun out of it. So, from now on, I will not be starting any new series. Maybe when I can get videos done, I'll bring back a few, alongside my plans for Awfully Direct. But for now, no more series. I may however start doing more of these monthly themes. If I can plan ahead some and get a manageable number of film to be reviewed, then this could be a fun addition to Cinema Won. And, as always, I will gladly take suggestions and work with others if they are willing to. After all, who knows where this is going to go?

Okay a couple of things first off. One, I know this was supposed to be another Shared Birthday review, but the DVD I wanted from Netflix had actually been broken by the previous recipient  I guess he wasn't happy with the movie. So, to move on, I did see Star Trek, so why not talk about that. Two, happy birthday Cinema Won!

Daredevil Returns Home

      Remember way back when, when the rights to a Daredevil movie were about to revert back to Marvel? Well, something finally came out of that today.
