Cinema Won Vs "The Apocalypse"

I have nothing against religion. Let me start out this review by saying that. People have a right to believe in whatever they want to believe in. However, that doesn't mean I want to spend a hour and a half being told how much my life is going to suck because I myself am not religious. Which is why most religious movies don't appeal to me personally. However, if I am going to watch a religious movie, it might as well be one with giant, world-ending asteroids, right? So let's watch 2007's creatively-titled The Apocalypse. And since it's made by the fine folks over at The Asylum, I'm sure it will be very delicate with it's message. This is The Apocalypse.

Top 10 Best of 2011 Amendment #3: 50/50

As the Academy Awards slowly sneak up on us, I continue to take a look at the award winners of 2011 and add some of them to my Top 10 Best list. So far, I've added Drive and Midnight in Paris, which unfortunately falls off the list today, due to another movie getting added to the list. That movie is 50/50.

I Am Legend For a Second Time

Back in 2007, I Am Legend, a film starring Will Smith following him as he tried to find a cure for a virus that had wiped  out most of the human race. The film did very well at the box office, grossing over 500 Million dollars and becoming the 7th high-grossing film of 2007. At the time however, much was made of the film's ending, which I will not spoil, but long story short, had to be changed after test audiences didn't like how thought-provokingly awesome the original ending was. However, now after 5 years, it seems like a new installment is on the way.

Top 10 Best of 2011 Admendment #2: Midnight in Paris

As I said last week when I added Drive to the number four position on my ever changing Top Ten Best of 2011, I was ever changing and I would be seeing more of the movies that ended up on the Best Picture list. Now, I have seen Woody Allen's Midnight in Paris and can safely say it deserves to be on my Top Ten list. However, where it ends up on the list is a small problem.

Valentine's Day Special: "The Punisher" (2004) Review

It's Valentine's Day. Goodie. In case you haven't guess, I don't have a date. And in case you don't yet realize this, not having a date on Valentine's Day kinda sucks. So, while everyone else is out watching movies filled with romance and drama, I'd thought I'd change things up a little bit and watch a movie that stands for the exact opposite of what Valentine's Day stands for: hate and murder. No, it isn't a Kathrine Heigl movie. This is 2004's The Punisher. Also, celebration is in order as this is the 100th official Cinema Won post! Happy 100! Now, on to crazy violence.

This Actually Exists...

A while back a series of "genre-mashup" books, such as the very popular and as of yet unfilmed Pride and Prejudice and Zombies, were very popular, typically adds a horror story to something that at first seems like it wouldn't match up at all. Now, a movie version of one of these books, Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter, yes, Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter, has just released it's first trailer:

Top 10 Best of 2011 Amendment #1: Drive

As I said earlier this year when I did my Top 10 Best Movies of 2011 list: http://cinemawon.blogspot.com/2012/01/top-10-best-films-of-2011-part-1.html, it was a work in progress as I had to miss most of the big award winners due to not being able to, you know, drive. But, now with the movies being released on DVD I have been able to check out some of them and I have to make adjustments to my Top 10 accordingly. The first major change is the addition of the film, Drive.

Spider-Man Begins Again

A lot has been said of the new Spider-Man reboot, The Amazing Spider-Man, some good, some... not so good, but for the most part it seems as though this one was kinda slipping under the radar with bigger movies The Avengers, The Dark Knight Rises and Man of Steel taking it's spotlight. And then this happened:

It's Like the Super Bowl for Superheroes!

Ok. Yes, the Patriots lost. It was a close game. But they lost. I knew they were going to lose. And they did. Disappointing. But expected. But how unexpectedly awesome was The Avengers:
