A Brief Word About "Cabin in the Woods"

The Cabin in the Woods is a terrible movie when it comes to reviewing it. It pretty much could be called Spoiler: The Movie as there is no real way to talk about it without giving the entire thing away. Also, I am fully into the new school year, which means plenty of essays and project to keep me away from Cinema Won. It's really no big deal at all, but the point is I am pretty busy now, so posts be coming in less frequently than usual. On top of that, this week will almost exclusively be used for the TV Pilot Marathon and preparation for a big Halloween event. So, the point is this...
I, for now, am not going to do a full review of Cabin in the Woods. Later on, say December or January, I may come back to it and fully review, but for now, here's what you need to know. The Cabin in the Woods is one of the best movies of the year. Every second of it is absolutely engaging and fantastic. The cast is great and it has one of the best horror story ever. If you have seen Cabin in the Woods yet, fix that. The Cabin in the Woods gets 6 stars out of 6.

TV Pilot Marathon: Episode 1: New NBC Comedies

Now, I know I said this would be an Adam McKay movie marathon, but that has been pushed back to November (I have something nightmarish planned for October). However, this month I wanted to take a look at the new pilot episodes for all the new shows starting this television season. In our first episode, let's take a look at three of NBC newest comedies, The New Normal, Guys With Kids and Go On.

The Undefined Gamer's New Home

As you may have noticed, Cinema Won has worked alongside fellow blog The Undefined Gamer since both of the blogs have been around. Well, there is a bit of sad news today. As you may have noticed, posts over at The Undefined Gamer have slowed to a stop recently. For many reasons, The Undefined Gamer is officially shutting down this week. Now,the site will be left up, so all of the old posts will remain viewable. As for all new posts however, The Undefined Gamer isn't leaving you hanging. From now on, you can find brand new post from him here on Cinema Won! Starting with this collection of mini-reviews...

Piranha 3D got a sequel. Scott Pilgrim didn't. I hate this world sometimes.

Better Than Honest Abe?

The other big trailer out today is for the film Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters, which explains how after they are kidnapped by the witch in the candy house, Hansel and Gretel are still haunted by that day and vow to hunt down and kill witches everywhere. Now, the most obvious comparison this movie with get is to is Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter, but I think this movie has more in common the flop Cowboys and Aliens. Where as Abraham Lincoln was a completely ludicrous mash-up of Abe Lincoln and Vampires (Obviously), Cowboys and Aliens felt like a much more plausible "What-If" scenario. Much like you could believe that aliens could have invaded Earth during the Old West, I could potentially believe that Hansel and Gretel's traumatic experience led them to becoming witch hunters. That said...

"Dorothy of Oz" Looks Terrible (Literally)

One of the things I really can't understand is why there is a surprisingly large influx of new Wizard of Oz stories coming out in 2013. First, there was Sam Raimi's Oz The Great and Powerful, which I think kinda looks just okay. Now there is the computer-animated Dorothy of Oz, which looks like it's comes to you directly from the direct-to-DVD bin at your local Target.
