The Undefined Gamer: King Thranduil Needs More Development

I don't know who this is!

Oh, it's Ned!

Played by Lee Pace, King Thranduil was barely mentioned in An
Unexpected Journey and was given a surprising amount of potential in
The Desolation of Smaug.
Thranduil is essentially the elf of elves. He essentially is the best
one (as the elven king should be!). Considering the honorable mentions
(Legolas... cough... cough) that is considerable. His backstory has
the potential to work as well, but well, spoilers...
You essentially have an extremely competent elf whose motives tend to
screw over everyone who isn't an elf in Middle Earth (whatever they
may be).
We need at least one good duel out of him.
      Yes.
This guy can be The Hobbit's Sarumon.
Potentially, given all of the character traits we've seen so far and
his astonishing skill in battle, Thranduil can become the best
character in the new series.
      If.
If Peter Jackson lets him leave his elfy realm and actually receive
some character development.
Properly developed, he can become slightly better than Sarumon.
Developed poorly... he can become a Draco Malfoy-like villain.
Again, it's all up to Jackson's decision.
And WHAT HAPPENED TO HIS MOOSE?!?!?
