"Cars 2" Review

Introduction: Cars 2 is a follow-up to 2006's Cars. Made by Pixar Studios it follow Tow Mater (Larry the Cable Guy) as he teams up with british spies Finn McMissile (Michael Caine) and Holly Shiftwell (Emily Mortimer) to stop a group of evil lemons from sabatoging the World Grand Prix, in which Lightning McQueen (Owen Wilson) is competing. The film also stars Eddie Izzard as the race's organizer and a hilarious John Turturro as one of McQueen's competators.

The Review: First off, before I start the review, let me just say that the people at Pixar are geniuses for following Toy Story 3 with Cars 2. Let's face it. The original Cars is many critics' least favorite Pixar movie. And Toy Story 3 is many critics' (Me included) favorite Pixar movie. So, following up Toy Story 3 with any other Pixar movie would have been bad because they would expect it to be on level or surpass Toy Story 3. That may never happen. So, Pixar decides to follow their best film with a sequel to their so-called "worst" film, thereby causing people to go into Cars 2 with low expectations. But, does Cars 2 really as bad as critics are saying. Short answer: No.
I thought Cars 2 was great. I had a very fun time watching the movie. Is it as good as Pixar's other movies? No. But I don't think it was supposed to be as good. I think Pixar wanted to just have fun for once. And they succeeded. No, there are not moments that will make you cry like in Toy Story 3. The closest the film get is when Weezer's "You Might Think" (Great song) starts playing over a scene of Mater and McQueen bonding around Toyko. However the film is just a lot of fun.  It's cool to see how the spy stuff we see in other spy movies are made to be used by cars. The film looks great too. There are beautiful vistas and plenty of jokes hidden in the background.

The Verdict: Overall, Cars 2 is not the epic masterpiece we've come to expect from Pixar. But, that's all-right. Because Cars 2 is just a ton of fun. If you have kids, they'll love it, so take them to see it. (I say take your kids even though I think all of my readers ar my teenage friends on Facebook.) And if you've ever played with toy cars when you were younger (Or still do. Admit it. You do.) then you'll have a great time. I had a great time which is why I'm giving Cars 2 the one of the highest rating I've got: 5.5 out of 6.

P.S. See it in 2D. I hear the 3D ruins the look of the film. Also comment below and let me think of what you thought about Cars 2.

  1. I gave that movie a B. Not a must-see (that would put it in the same calibur as Harry Potter), but it doesn't completely suck.
