In the last few days, not one but two trailers showcasing 2013 film that covering the people left behind after the world ends have been released. The first is Oblivion, starring Tom Cruise, and the other is After Earth, an M. Night Shyamalan directed film starring Will and Jaden Smith. Here's the trailer for Oblivion:
Overall, it's not half-bad. Sure the premise, which finds Cruise as part of a clean-up crew after the Earth is destroyed and happening upon a mysterious woman, is basically a live-action Wall-e, the trailer has it's moments, the effects look god and overall the film appears to be pretty solid. Look for it on April 12, 2013.
After Earth, however, isn't as impressive. And seeing as how Oblivion wasn't that impressive, that's saying something. The story involves Will Smith and Jaden Smith crash-landing on a post-apocalyptic Earth, where everything is all prehistoric looking. The trailer is extremely pretentious looking, with Will saying a lot of things about fear and all that jazz and I don't buy into it for a second. The twist (It's Shyamalan, there's always a twist), is most likely that this is actually the past and these two will probably set forth human evolution and blah blah blah. Unfortunately, it doesn't look like Shyamalan is returning with anything all that great in tow. After Earth is released on June 7 2013.
